What is the Recovery Process After Microtia Treatment?

The First Days After Surgery

The first 24–48 hours after surgery are extremely critical.
The head area is covered with special bandages.
Mild pain, swelling, and bruising may occur.
Painkillers and antibiotics should be used regularly as prescribed by the doctor.

Dressing and Wound Care

The first dressing is usually done at the hospital.
Stitched areas must be kept sterile and untouched.
If dressings are done at home, the doctor's instructions must be followed carefully.
If cartilage was taken from the rib area, special care is required for that area as well.

Things to Pay Attention to During Recovery

  • Avoid trauma to the head and ear area

  • Refrain from heavy sports and activities for at least 4 weeks

  • The ear area should not be exposed to water

  • If a prosthesis is used, its fixation system must be handled carefully

Possible Complications

  • Infection: The most common issue; can be controlled with early intervention

  • Cartilage resorption: Rare, but requires monitoring

  • Shape deformity: Can occur due to pressure, trauma, or improper care

  • Prosthesis loosening: Extra care is needed when using adhesive or magnetic systems

Full Recovery Time

  • Cartilage-based surgeries: 6 to 12 weeks

  • Medpor technique: 4 to 6 weeks

  • Prosthesis application: Can be used within 1 to 2 weeks

It is important to remember that every individual's healing process is unique.
