The first 24–48 hours after surgery are extremely critical.
The head area is covered with special bandages.
Mild pain, swelling, and bruising may occur.
Painkillers and antibiotics should be used regularly as prescribed by the doctor.
The first dressing is usually done at the hospital.
Stitched areas must be kept sterile and untouched.
If dressings are done at home, the doctor's instructions must be followed carefully.
If cartilage was taken from the rib area, special care is required for that area as well.
Avoid trauma to the head and ear area
Refrain from heavy sports and activities for at least 4 weeks
The ear area should not be exposed to water
If a prosthesis is used, its fixation system must be handled carefully
Infection: The most common issue; can be controlled with early intervention
Cartilage resorption: Rare, but requires monitoring
Shape deformity: Can occur due to pressure, trauma, or improper care
Prosthesis loosening: Extra care is needed when using adhesive or magnetic systems
Cartilage-based surgeries: 6 to 12 weeks
Medpor technique: 4 to 6 weeks
Prosthesis application: Can be used within 1 to 2 weeks
