Psychosocial effects
1. Surgical Ear Reconstruction (with Rib Cartilage Graft)
The patient's own rib cartilage is used to reconstruct the ear and achieve an aesthetic appearance. This procedure is typically performed between the ages of 6 and 10.
2. Medpor Technique
The ear is modeled using synthetic materials. It can be performed at an earlier age.
3. 3D Ear Prosthesis
An aesthetic solution without surgery. The prosthesis completes the appearance of the external ear.
When is Microtia noticed?
It is usually noticed at birth but can also be detected through hearing tests.
Is Microtia surgery difficult?
When performed by an experienced surgeon, successful results can be achieved. Factors such as age, cartilage development, and the type of ear deformity are important.
How long does ear reconstruction surgery take?
Depending on the method used, the surgery typically takes between 2 to 4 hours.
