After the ear reconstruction surgery, there are some precautions to be taken in order to get through the healing process without any problems. We will tell you the postoperative period, which begins with the patient leaving the operating room and being brought to the room, in 3 parts.
At the end of the operation, you will be able to take your child from the operating room door in the presence of our nurses and accompany him to his room. In the first 30 minutes after coming to the room, our child may not be able to establish a full dialog with you, as he will still be under the effect of anesthesia, even if partially. He may have nausea, vomiting, cry, but do not worry, these complaints will quickly subside with the drug treatment. It is very important that you stay calm in that half hour, and that you are calm and supportive while our nurses are doing their duties. In this process, please do not make decisions about the care of the patient on your own, it will be sufficient to send us any questions that come to your mind. For example, ask your nurse if our child wants water. Never touch the drain, serum and dressing of the patient.
Fluid intake is allowed 2 hours after the surgery, starting with water. same night sick soup etc. We will discuss this process in 3 parts, which starts with the patient being brought to his/her room when he/she becomes able to eat light foods.
The patients main complaint will be pain in the chest area, where cartilage is removed, rather than the ear area. However, with the application of pain-relieving pumps developed in recent years, this problem is eliminated and the post-operative period is more comfortable.
The next day, our patient is allowed to get out of bed and walk. Walking and physical activity are important after surgery.
It would be a good idea to bring his/her favorite personal belongings, an iPad if you have one, and 1-2 toys.
After three days in the hospital after the surgery, our patients are discharged with a prescription that includes an antibiotic and ointments to be applied to the ear. After discharge, our patients do not need painkillers.
After you are discharged from the hospital, you will stay in Bodrum for another 4 or 5 days. During these few days, you will come to our clinic every day for postoperative wound care and routine check-ups. For a problem-free recovery, please do not neglect to comply with the post-operative precautions with the feeling of relief after leaving the hospital. On the 7th day after the surgery, your stitches will be removed and you will be able to return home. Before sending you home, you will be informed in detail by our clinic staff about the points you need to pay attention to after you return home..
After the time spent in Bodrum after the surgery, you are now at home. Please do not neglect the precautions with the psychological relief you experience after returning home.
Our patients can return to school 2 weeks after surgery.
Thanks to modern technological facilities, we can follow our patients coming from different cities and abroad with the photos sent via WHATSAPP without visiting to our clinic many times. For an accurate assessment, it is important that the photos you submit are taken from the specific angles shown in the sample photos, in good light, and against a flat background.
After returning home, we want you to send photos every day for the first week, every three days for the next two weeks, and once a week during the next 6 months. Then, it will be enough sending photos every 3 moths. The photos you send will be evaluated by Dr. Mehmet Mutaf. Unless healing process is adversely affected, you do not need to come our clinic for a check-up during the period between the first and the second stages. Starting with the third week after the second surgery, it will be enough for the patient to come for a check-up once for silicone mold application which the patient will use to prevent the shrinkage of the sulcus behind the ear. After that, we recommend annual follow-ups, but unless there is a problem, it will not be necessary to come to our clinic for these annual check-ups. As a matter of fact, we see that many families do not have time for this within their flow of life and are content with just sharing images.
